Salt water and sand are the most aggressive substances and attack the mechanics inside the tripods. Unfortunately, there are no suitable seals which can permanently prevent sand and salts from penetrating into the interior of the tube segments and thereby remain permanently water-tight.
For these applications we offer handles for exchange. At the lower end is a mounted felt ring which prevents the penetration of sand and salt. The handles are equipped with rubber rings to prevent opening by vibrations during safari trips on the car roof.
Dirt, sand and also salt particles are retained in the felt, but saline water can still penetrate into the interior of the tube segments. Therefore it is recommended to disassemble the tube segments and to clean the felt rings by blow-out during extended periods of use or after a holiday in a sandy or salt-bearing environment. If salt water gets inside, this should be removed on the same day. Clean with tap water and allow the segments to dry before assembly. Remove any greasy, missing or greasy grease. Any conventional lubricating grease for threads can be used.
Strongly soiled or damaged felt rings should be replaced. These are available separately at FLM.
